The Naihati police station's diligent efforts culminated in the arrest of a couple residing in the Naihati on charges of perpetrating a financial fraud worth crores of rupees. The accused couple, identified as Biswajit Majumder and Somashri Lahiri Majumder, had allegedly absconded on May 20, 2023, after swindling substantial sums of money from numerous individuals. Their scheme involved soliciting funds under the pretext of building a house and funding their ill father's medical treatment.

Following their disappearance and subsequent complaints filed with the Naihati police station, an extensive investigation was launched to track down the couple. After a thorough pursuit spanning around three months, the accused couple was apprehended in Bangalore. The police's relentless efforts bore fruit as they succeeded in locating and arresting the alleged fraudsters.

Subsequent to their arrest, Biswajit Majumder and Somashri Lahiri Majumder were presented before the Barrackpore court. The charges leveled against them are rooted in their alleged financial misconduct that affected a multitude of victims, collectively involving crores of rupees.

The couple's modus operandi reportedly revolved around convincing neighbors and acquaintances to part with their money by fabricating various reasons. Their schemes exploited people's trust and willingness to offer assistance in times of need, only to betray that goodwill through financial deceit.
